The Eckmühl lighthouse in Penmarc’h
It is undoubtedly the most elegant lighthouse in the Pays Bigouden: majestic and slender, the Eckmühl lighthouse has dominated the Pointe de Penmarc’h with its 65-metre granite tower since 1897.
A symbol of Breton heritage that you absolutely must see, just 18 minutes from the Manoir de Kerhuel****, in Plonéour-Lanvern
To reach the observation platform, you will have to climb 307 steps, 290 of which are between walls of pearly opaline, before emerging under the blue of the sky and the ocean.
From up there, the 360° view takes in the Bigouden coastline, the coastal villages and the Pointe de Saint-Pierre.
You will also see the old Penmarc'h lighthouse, now transformed into an exhibition space, and the Semaphore, with its military architecture, which monitors the maritime area.
Through testimonies and archive documents, you will discover their daily lives, their responsibilities and the significant events they have experienced, sometimes tragic.
A particular focus is placed on the women who played an essential but little-known role in the history of these sentinels of the sea.
The exhibition is accessible free of charge during the lighthouse's opening hours.
For an even more immersive experience, take part in the night tours in July and August, a unique opportunity to observe the coastal lights all the way to Pointe du Raz.
Three sessions are organized every Tuesday evening, at 9:30 p.m., 10:15 p.m. and 11 p.m. (duration: 45 minutes).
You can also opt for the privileged visits, organized on Fridays from July 11 to August 20 as well as Thursdays July 24 and 31, August 7 and 14 at 9:15 a.m.
You will learn everything about the history of the lighthouse and can even discover the hall of honor and the patrol path!
